SACRAMENTO, Calif. - The Northern Colorado track & field team got its first-ever individual champion Saturday at the final day of the Big Sky Conference Championship as sophomore Rachel Stevens won the high jump with a clearance of 5-8.75, which is also an NCAA Regional qualifying mark.

The men's team tied for eighth place with 29 points, knotting Portland State. Northern Arizona won the men's title with 166 points. The women's team placed ninth after scoring 25.5 points, while Sacramento State successfully defended its indoor title, scoring 166.5 to win.

Stevens earned 10 team points for the Bears, while Katie McConnell tied for sixth in the same event after clearing 5-3. Junior Patrick Berg earned all-conference honors with his third place finish in the discus, throwing 159-6.

On the track, senior Jeff Vaden finished eighth in the 110 hurdles after running a 15.07, while sophomore Tyler Hoerner was fifth in the 400 meters with his time of 47.91. Freshman Terrence McGaughy finished seventh in the 100 meters with his time of 10.87 and was eighth in the 200 in 22.98. In the 400 meter hurdles, sophomore Marty Wittmer finished fourth after clocking a 54.90.

Sophomore Justine Sandersfeld again earned all-conference honors with her third place finish in the 400 meters. She narrowly missed qualifying for NCAA Regionals after running a 54.93 but did shatter her own school record. Her previous best time from earlier this year was 55.60. Senior Ashley Stec placed seventh in the 400 hurdles, running a 1:03.90.

The men's 4x400 meter relay team of Wittmer, Travis Stanford, Effler and Hoerner placed fourth in 3:15.06, finishing just .04 off Eastern Washington's third-place finish. The women's quartet of Jillian Hoblitt, Lauren Iseman, Stec and Sandersfeld placed fifth after clocking a 3:50.08.
