In lone season with Bears, produced arguably the greatest offensive season in school history as he led Division I in both batting average (.478) and slugging (.844) and broke school records for batting average, doubles (27), RBI (74) and total bases (157) for a single season ... drafted by the Boston Red Sox in the seventh round (pick No. 215) of the 2004 First-Year Player Draft and elected to forego his senior season to sign with the Red Sox ... became the highest UNC draft pick since the 1986 season when Mike Anderson was selected No. 207 overall.

2004: ABCA All-Midwest Region Second-Team ... Division I Independent Player of the Year ... led all Division I players nationally in both batting average (.478) and slugging (.844), becoming the first UNC player ever to accomplish that feat ... also ranked second nationally in doubles (0.54/game) and RBI (1.48/game) ... set school records for batting average, doubles (27), RBI (74) and total bases (157) and finished second in a season in school history in hits (89) and third in slugging, all this while playing with a bad foot, arm and hamstring the last week of the season ... led all D-I Independent players in batting average, hits, doubles and RBI and was second in home runs ... reached base safely in all 50 games he played in, ended the season with a 16-game hitting streak (hit safely in 37 of his last 41 games) and had 31 multi-hit and 20 multi-RBI games during the year ... ended the season with a stretch of 10 consecutive multi-hit games; also had stretch of seven-straight multi-hit games during the middle of the season ... near end of the season had a stretch of 9-for-9 at the plate (four short of NCAA record), recording hits in nine consecutive at-bats and in 11 of 13 at-bats overall ... reached base safely 13 times in a row during that stretch (five away from NCAA record) and would have extended both streaks had a bad hamstring not slowed him down ... hit final-inning home runs against each Southern Utah (Feb. 16) and Fort Hays State (Feb. 14) to spark come-from-behind victories in both for the Bears ... had multi-RBI games in seven of his last 10 contests, despite playing injured in all 10 of those games ... struck out only twice in his last 67 official at-bats, which stretched out over 20 games; in fact, struck out 12 times in his first 21 games and then only four times in his final 29 contests ... over last 10 games of the season (all against Division I Independent teams), hit .694 (25-36) with seven doubles, four home runs and 25 RBI and a 1.222 slugging percentage ... in 20 games against D-I Independent competition during the season, hit .515 (35-68) with 23 runs, 10 doubles, seven home runs, 38 RBI, 66 total bases, a .971 slugging and .588 on-base percentage and a perfect 1.000 field percentage ... scored at least one run in 15 of last 16 games of the season and a season-high three runs on six occasions ... had at least one RBI in each of his final seven games and in 24 of the last 29 contests of the year ... made All-Tournament team at Iowa Hawkeye Classic after hitting .615 with seven RBI in leading UNC to 2-1 record and second place finish at event ... also named to All-Tournament team at D-I Independent Invitational, after hitting .667 with seven RBI in three games ... named D-I Independent Player of the Week (May 4) and Newcomer of the Week (March 23 & April 27) during the season ... named UNC Student-Athlete of the Month for April after hitting .400 (14-35) with six doubles and 12 RBI during the month ... had a career-high five RBI twice, going 2-3 against Utah Valley State (May 1) and 3-4, with two doubles, a home run and five RBI against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (Apr. 23) ... had a season-high four hits against each Mesa State (4-6, double, three RBI) and Hawaii-Hilo (4-4, double, RBI) ... was 2-3 with three runs, two home runs and four RBI against Pace University (May 21) ... in a stretch of three games in three days (May 15-17) was a combined 8-12 and drove in nine runs playing two games against Sacramento State then traveling back to Greeley to play against Hawaii-Hilo ... behind the plate, threw of 10 of 26 baserunners during the season ... during the season hit .521 (38-73) with runners in scoring position, .487 (38-78) with two outs, .842 (16-19) with a runner on third and less than two outs, .482 (53-110) with runners on base, .514 (19-37) vs. left-handed pitching and .470 (70-149) against right-handed pitching.

Prior to UNC: Played two seasons for coach Gary Addington at Otero Junior College in LaJunta, Colo. ... two-time all-region selection ... hit .367 with 11 home runs, 57 RBI, 51 runs and 28 walks during 2003 season ... NJCAA Academic All-American and graduated cum laude ... team set school record for wins (37) in 2003.

High School: 2001 graduate of Niwot High ... four-year letter winner for coach Bob Bote ... missed most of senior season due to injury ... second-team all-state selection junior year ... helped Cougars to 4A State Championships in 1998, 1999 and 2000 ... team was ranked No. 28 in the country by Easton Sports in 2000 ... member of National Honor Society.
