Baseball Scores 11 in Seventh En Route To 23-15 Victory

GREELEY, Colo. - The Northern Colorado baseball team won a 23-15 game over Texas-Pan American in a game that featured 38 runs and 41 hits and saw the Bears put 11 on the scoreboard in the seventh inning. With the win, the Bears improve to 16-30, while the Broncs move to 17-30.

 

All nine players in the starting lineup tallied at least one hit in the game with eight of the nine tallying multiple hits, led by junior Andy Mees going 5-for-6 in the leadoff position. Junior Mike Raudenbush also hit his first two home runs in a Bears uniform, going deep in both the fifth and eighth innings.

 

The Bears hit the ball early and often, scoring seven runs in the first two innings on seven hits and led 7-0 after three frames. In the fourth, the Broncs got on the board with two runs in the fourth inning, but NC answered with one for the 8-2 score.

 

Both teams had big fifth innings, with UTPA scoring five and Northern Colorado adding four to its score, including a two-run home run by Mike Raudenbush, his first of the season. The Broncs scored two in the sixth and tied up the score with three in the top of the seventh, however NC exploded for its biggest inning of the year, scoring 11 in the eighth on 10 hits, including home runs by Raudenbush and Kevin Sandberg.

 

Chris Reap threw the first innings for Northern Colorado, allowing seven runs (six earned) on seven hits, walking four and striking out six but got no decision, while Sean Peery picked up the win to move to 3-3 on the year. He pitched two innings, allowing five runs (four earned) on four hits, walking three and striking out four. Matthew Dudley pitched the final two innings, allowing three runs on four hits, walking one and striking out one.

 

The two teams meet in a doubleheader tomorrow beginning at 11:00 a.m. Sunday will also be senior day and the 13 seniors on the squad will be honored between the first and second contest.
