Bears Women In Eighth On The Links

CHANDLER, Ariz. -- Northern Colorado's women's golf team was tied for eighth with Arkansas State on Monday night after completing the first two rounds of the 2008 Wyoming Cowgirl Classic at Octotillo Golf Resort.

Big Sky team Eastern Washington was in first at the end of day one after turning in round scores of 309 and 302 (611, +35) on the par-72, 6,108-yard course.

The Bears (322, 319; +65) were just 11 shots off the lead at the end of round one and entered day two 30 shots behind the Eagles.

Senior Jenny Henderson (Fargo, N.D) was Northern Colorado's top individual finisher on day one. She finished the day tied for 25th after shooting an 80 in round one and a 78 in round two.

Nevada, which was in second place after day one, tied a tournament record Monday with its 297 second-round score. The mark is the lowest round shot by a team in the two-year history of the event.

The Bears and the other 15 teams in the Cowgirl Classic field will complete competition with another 18 holes on Tuesday, April 8.
