Swimming Slips To Third After Day Three :: Bears Still In Striking Distance For the Title

LONG BEACH, Calif. - After the third day of the Pacific Collegiate Swimming & Diving Conference Championship, the University of Northern Colorado Bears are in third place with 828 points, trailing Pepperdine (857) and UC San Diego (833) with one day remaining.

Katie Schmitt won the 200 freestyle, swimming a 1:51.95. Tori Gutt and Chesney Randolph finished second and third, respectively in the 400 individual medley. Gutt finished in 4:29.86, breaking the school record of 4:31.02 held by Schmitt from 2006, while Randolph touched the pad in 4:33.27, which is the fifth fastest time in school history.

Sophomore Nan Liu finished second in the 100 butterfly in 54.86, hitting the "B" standard for the NCAA Championships. Krista Griffin placed fifth in the 100 breaststroke in a time of 1:08.18, which places her eighth all-time at Northern Colorado.

The quartet of Liu, Griffin, Randolph and Schmitt finished second in the 400 medley relay finals, combining for a time of 3:54.08, which is the second fastest time in school history.

The Bears conclude the PCSC Championship tomorrow at the Belmont Plaza Olympic Pool in Long Beach
